| PMM Companies (PMM) is more than just a janitorial service to clean your facility. We are active participants in your businesses and communities and strive to be your partner. Our corporate philosophy serves as the foundation upon which our company is built. As a family-owned and operated company for over 30 years, the values of respect, integrity, service and excellence remain the core beliefs of all divisions within PMM.
PMM's began in 1977 when Potomac Minute Maids, Inc. was founded. Potomac Minute Maids Inc. was a small residential house cleaning company with a vision of superior service. "Team cleaning" was a new way of servicing the exploding home cleaning market for two-income, middle-class families. Teams of cleaners could systematically, efficiently and inexpensively service the rapidly growing demographic of dual income families who lacked the time to clean their own homes.
Filling such an important need for families began to take on a life of its own and in 1980, Steve Lustig was hired as general manager to begin the process of growing PMM Companies. In 1981, with the residential service prospering, Steve expanded the company into the commercial janitorial area. This change involved a systematic process of only bringing on commercial customers when high-quality work could be assimilated into the workforce. This corporate philosophy of attention to detail and quality still remain the core belief of all divisions of PMM today.
In 1989, Mitch Lustig became an owner and partner in PMM Companies. He integrated his large company background and executive sales experience into the growing organization. Additional changes to PMM that year included selling the home cleaning division as PMM found opportunities continuing to grow in the commercial customer base with expansion into the non-profit arena. PMM's attention to detail, sense of urgency and ability to develop flexible schedules were natural fits for seven day facilities such as schools and religious institutions.
The expansion of the commercial and non-profit customer base evolved into PMM's entry into the facilities maintenance and management field as the need for competent building engineers and preventative maintenance programs was recognized. In 1996, PMM hired operational expertise in the building operations and maintenance field and became the foundation of our facilities maintenance and management services.
With a broad range of services available to our commercial and non-profit clients, in January 2004 PMM expanded into the government sector which culminated in being awarded schedule 03FAC, contract GS-06F-0019P by the GSA.
In 2007, PMM continued to grow through the acquisition of At Once Cleaning Services, Inc. At Once began its operation in 1979 with one premise: to provide professional janitorial services to the Baltimore/Washington area. With this acquisition, PMM expanded its product offering to include construction cleaning, carpet and floor cleaning services and a professional window cleaning operation. At Once Cleaning Services continues to operate as a subsidiary of PMM.
But perhaps the most important change occurred in 2007 during a pivotal strategic planning meeting. PMM's executive team resolved to align the company and all its subsidiary cleaning and plant operations procedures, products and practices with the standards established by Green Seal and the U.S. Green Building Council. We've pledged to do our part to help the environment and converted all cleaning services to green methods. We believe that by working together, we can do our part to sustain the environment while creating healthy buildings for ourselves and our families.
As a result of these efforts, PMM can now help any institution achieve Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification. LEED certification requires much more than just switching from traditional to green cleaning. This is an exciting new chapter in the history of PMM Companies, one that will be approached with the same attention to detail and quality that the home cleaning company demonstrated over 30 years ago. |
